KinKon - a system for the real-time reconstruction of extended and bounded 3D environments.
KinKon is a system for the real-time reconstruction of extended and bounded indoor environments. The real-time performance is achieved by harnessing the parallel computing power of graphics processing units (NVIDIA CUDA® is the used parallel computing platform).
The KinKon’s architecture was designed for allowing it to scan wide areas as well as medium-sized objects. This is done by using a modified “rolling grid” for storing the geometric information. Kintinuous was the first work to use this technique. The introduced modifications generate a diminishment in the hardware requirements (GPU RAM and processing power), thus making the system usable in a wider hardware spectrum. The system also makes extensive use of the CUDA hardware architecture and programming paradigms for achieving the highest possible performance.
