The Robotics Institute Germany (RIG) aims to establish Germany as a leading international hub for AI-powered robotics. To achieve this goal, RIG connects leading German robotics research centers and promotes collaboration across institutional and disciplinary boundaries. By combining expertise and resources, the initiative seeks to accelerate research, drive innovation, and strengthen the transfer of emerging technologies into industrial and societal applications.

A central challenge is to bring together Germany's diverse but partially fragmented robotics research landscape and establish sustainable collaboration between research institutions and industry. At the same time, RIG addresses the need to translate advances in artificial intelligence and robotics into practical applications, establish comparable evaluation methods for robotic systems, and create attractive conditions for international researchers and emerging talent.

RIG addresses these challenges by promoting shared infrastructures encompassing software, data, and physical and virtual laboratories. In addition, benchmarking initiatives support the evaluation of robotic systems and technologies against comparable criteria, making research progress more measurable. Another key focus is education and talent development through joint educational programs and opportunities for collaboration and exchange.

RIG also strengthens scientific exchange and international networking through events such as the German Robotics Conference (GRC), as well as numerous meetings and exchange programs. These activities aim to facilitate knowledge transfer between research institutions, foster new collaborations, and increase the international visibility of German robotics research.

By closely connecting research, infrastructure, education, and technology transfer, RIG contributes to building a sustainable robotics ecosystem in Germany and advancing the long-term development and adoption of AI-powered robotics.
