| Content | The module CAD Engineering Project for Intelligent Systems is a project-based master’s-level course that offers students the opportunity to gain and to deepen engineering competencies in the development of intelligent mechatronic systems through practical application. Working in interdisciplinary teams, students conceive, design, and realize a robotic prototype across a complete development cycle. Starting from a defined problem statement, students develop a technical concept and implement it as a detailed mechanical design using CAD software (Autodesk Fusion 360). Particular emphasis is placed on the basics of rapid prototyping, function-oriented component design, correct parametrization, consideration of manufacturing constraints, and the integration of mechanical and electronic components as well as their software interfacing. The designed components are predominantly manufactured using additive manufacturing methods (in particular 3D printing) and are supplemented by basic conventional manufacturing techniques. In parallel, students integrate suitable sensors, actuators, and additional electronic components into the system and develop the necessary software for control and regulation of the robotic prototype. Finally, the developed system is assembled, commissioned, and tested and evaluated under realistic conditions. The results are subsequently documented and presented. In addition to technical expertise, the module particularly promotes project management skills, teamwork, interdisciplinary thinking, and a systematic, solution-oriented approach, as required for the development of intelligent technical systems in research and industry. Prerequisites: Students must hand in a small application, detailing motivation and prior experience. The application is done via Ilias (ilias.studium.kit.edu) - Deadline: 16.04.2026 . |
