| Content | The CAD Workshop is a project-based bachelor-level module that provides students with a hands-on introduction to the computer-aided development of a mechatronic prototype. The course has a particular focus on the development process from the initial idea to a functional prototype, including. team organisation, product management, and marketing. Students work in small teams and operate under limited resources (time, budget, and personnel). Based on a task defined at the beginning of the workshop, the teams develop a product concept and implement it along a structured development process. The focus lies less on the design's complexity and more on the exemplary experience with typical tasks and challenges encountered throughout the development process, such as role and task allocation, workflow definition, bill of materials, version and data management, as well as project and time planning. In parallel, students translate their concepts into mechanical designs using CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Fusion 360), with particular emphasis on creating assemblies. At least two components need to be manufactured using additive manufacturing methods (3D printing), while also providing basic insights into classical CAD design of individual parts. The designed components are assembled into a mechatronic prototype that may include basic electronic and software-based functionality. The control system of the prototype is implemented by the students. The entire development process is documented, regularly reflected upon in milestone presentations, and finally presented in a final presentation, including a live demonstration of the prototype. Learning Objectives After successfully completing the module, students are able to:
