The cooperation agreement between the Technical University (TU) Sofia and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was ratified on 06.02.2015. This agreement specifies the collaboration between the two institutions as part of the "Fakultät für deutsche Ingenieur- und Betriebswirtschaftsausbildung" (FDIBA) in Sofia. The project is funded by the "German Academic Exchange Service” (“Deutschen Akademischer Auslandsdienst"-DAAD). The Vice President of the Technical University Sofia, Prof. Dr. Valeri Mladenov, and the dean of the FDIBA, Prof. Dr. jur. Dipl.-Ing. Stefan Stefanov, signed the contract from Bulgarian side. In addition, the President of the KIT, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka, and the Vice-President for Higher Education and Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Alexander Wanner, signed the agreement. The representatives of KIT underlined that this cooperation is one of the longest and most intensive collaborations. The TU Sofia and the KIT can look back on 25 years of successful cooperation.

So students from TU Sofia can be further educated in cooperation with the KIT in the subject "general mechanical engineering" and in future also in the subject "mechatronics". Even doctoral candidate of both institutions will benefit from the supervision of the German and Bulgarian University. Research and development and the expansion of cooperation with industry are also part of the agreement.

One reason for the successful and intensive cooperation is the strong commitment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. C. Jivka Ovtcharova, director of the Institute for Information Management in Engineering (IMI). She is the coordinator of the KIT for education in mechanical engineering and computer science at the FDIBA since 2005.
